Individuals are selected from nominations solicited from alumni/ae, faculty, and friends. Criteria includes 1) Student Achievements (High School, College, Graduate, academic, athletic, service); 2) Career Achievements; 3) Service to society, the community, and to the school.

Visit SLS and walk the main hallway to view photos of past winners.

Nominations are open to all graduates of at least 10 years, all present or former faculty, and distinguished friends of the school. The next induction will be in the Fall of 2008, so we encourage you to get your nomination in today.  Click here to print form.

2006 Inductees into the Seton-La Salle Hall of Fame

Sister Kay Palas, SC*

Mr. Anthony O'Toole*

Mr. William McGregor '67

Kathy McConnell-Miller '85

Mrs. Kay Dieckmann

Kathy McConnell-Miller '85 became the sixth head coach of the Colorado University women's basketball team in 2005. Before arriving at CU, McConnell-Miller spent six seasons as head coach at the University of Tulsa. She constructed an impressive turnaround for the Golden Hurricanes, a feat which helped her earn WAC Coach of the Year in her rookie season in 1999-00.  Prior to Tulsa, McConnell-Miller spent four seasons on the coaching staff at the University of Illinois.  McConnell-Miller enjoyed a four year playing career for the University of Virginia that included four NCAA tournaments, a pair of Sweet 16 appearances and the 1988 Elite Eight.  McConnell-Miller and her husband, Brad Miller, have three children:  Brice, Mackenzie and Macie.

William McGregor '67 graduated from John Carroll University in 1971. Following a college career as a middle linebacker, Bill moved to the Washington, DC area. He worked as a teacher and coach and ended up at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, MD. Bill has been DeMatha’s Head Football Coach for the past 24 years and has a phenomenal winning record, (227-32-3). Under his direction more than 270 high school players have been awarded full NCAA Division I scholarships.  During the summer, Bill works with youth in summer football leagues in the Washington, DC area.  His many honors include 11 times WCAC Coach of the Year, National Quarterback Club High School Football Coach of the Year and NFL National High School Football Coach of the Year. Bill and his wife, Brenda, have four children: Kristen, Kortney, Bill and Kalynne.

Anthony O'Toole did not fit into the standard nominee categories for the Hall of Fame award, yet nominations poured in from those whom he influenced through his years as the custodian at Elizabeth Seton High School.  O'Toole could have held many more titles. One nomination stated, “He was janitor, custodian, counselor and friend. His presence in the halls of ESHS from 1943 to 1973 was important to the success of the school and the students within.”  O'Toole served ESHS through seven principals. His ingenuity and dedication saved the school hundreds if not thousands of dollars a year. He touched all students and staff with his compassion and his work ethic.  O’Toole’s daughters are Seton graduates and his son, King, often helped him around the school.

Sister Kathryn Palas, SC, from her initial days as a science teacher to just weeks before her untimely death, was a vital contributor to the Catholic education community.  Sister Kay entered the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in 1954.  Sister Kay was named to the "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" in 1994 and was selected to the Seton Hill University Board of Trustees.  During the last 20+ years, Sister Kay was committed to the students of Seton-La Salle. She served as teacher, vice principal, advisory board member, academic council chair, and was an avid sports fan.  Despite the toll that cancer began to take on her in her last years at SLS, Sister Kay remained cheerful, determined and positive, a daily example to all students of the strength derived from our faith.

The John T. Cicco Lifetime Achievement Award is also presented biennially. This award was established in 1991 in memory of the former superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Pittsburgh Diocese.

The recipient this year is Kay Dieckmann.  From the time her oldest son, Brian, entered SLS as a freshman, Kay has taken on a commitment to Seton-La Salle like few other parents.  Even years after her last child graduated, she has remained committed to Catholic education and SLS.  Kay has worked on and chaired the Silent Auction since its inception. She has helped in some capacity with every team on which her four children have played.  With her calm, efficient demeanor she has welcomed others to join in the effort. Kay has helped establish parent groups, raise money for capital improvements, and spearheaded the SLS Growth Committee.  In addition to her contributions at SLS, Kay has been active for many years in Our Lady of Grace's Christian Mothers Guild and serves as a Eucharistic Minister at the parish. Kay and her husband Herman have four children.  Congratulations to our new Hall of Fame and John T. Cicco Award recipients.
