In the State of Pennsylvania, there is a unique way that businesses can support private education.  The  Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC), enacted in 2001, has become a national model for business support of private education. This year, Seton-La Salle was able to award more than $220,000 in aid to families thanks to this program. EITC provides a tax credit of up to 90 percent for companies that donate to non-profit scholarship and educational improvement organizations.

The Education Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program is the most effective way companies doing business in Pennsylvania can help our school.  The money goes directly into a scholarship fund and directly aids the families at Seton-La Salle. 

The application process is simple.  A business is approved for a tax credit equal 6 to 75 percent of its contribution to a scholarship organization, up to a maximum of $200,000 per taxable year. The tax credit may be increased to 90 percent if the business agrees to provide the same amount of contribution for two consecutive years.  There is a one-page application online at www.newpa.com/eitc which can be faxed to the PA Department of Community and Economic Development.  Your application can be approved in just 48 hours. 

The applications are processed on a first-come first-served basis until the available tax credit money is exhausted.   Those applying for the second year of a two year commitment begin their application on May 18. 

Due to the current economic situation, the State is considering decreasing or dismantling this important program.  Please let your legislators know that this vital program helps sustain choice in education and actually saves the State money!  It has become an important tool for SLS to sustain enrollment, too.
