There are various college scholarships that are available. More opportunities will become available throughout the year.  They will be posted as we receive information on them.

 

Making It Count "Winning Characteristics" Scholarship: Communication skills, organizational skills, leadership skills, logic, effort, group skills and entrepreneurship -if you have these "Winning Characteristics" you should apply for this scholarship.

 

The fifth annual "Winning Characteristics" Scholarship is a one-time scholarship awarded to high school seniors who have participated in the Making College & Career Count presentation between January 1 - June 13, 2008 and who can exhibit excellence based on the "Winning Characteristics" highlighted in the program. This year, Making It Count will award one national, $5,000 scholarship and five regional, $1,000 scholarships.

Gatorade is giving $2500 awards for programs that keep or get girls to be active in their high schools.  Check this website to see if you want to apply for this grant.

Dormont Mother’s Club – The Dormont Mother’s Club is now accepting applications from Dormont Borough Seniors who intend to continue their education beyond high school.  This Grant In Aid may be applied for by students planning to attend commercial, vocational or non-academic career schools as well as college.  The applicant must b a Dormont resident who is graduating from Seton-LaSalle High School no later than June, 2008.  See Mrs. Caves for applications.

SchoolSoup.com – is a website to use to search for scholarships.  Log on to SchoolSoup.com and find plenty of award opportunities.

Pennsylvania New Economy Technology Scholarship Program – is providing 2 scholarships:  The Scitech Scholarship and the Technology Scholarship.  For the Scitech Scholarship, the student must be at least a sophomore enrolled full-time and pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with at least a 3.0GPA.  The award is up to $3000 per year. To be eligible for the Technology Scholarship, the student can be full or part-time.  The must be enrolled in a PA institution in an approved science or technology program.  The award is up to $1,000 per year.  See Mrs. Caves for more information.

Robert C. Edwards Scholarship Foundation - The applicant must be from
Greentree and have been accepted for admission to an accredited college
that offers a two year or four year degree.  The scholarship amount is
$1,000.  Please see Mrs. Caves for an application.

BigSun Scholarship - The BigSun Organization is an annual scholarship to a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution.  All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in. Deadline - June 20, 2008 Amount of Award - $500.00.  Please visit their website at http://www.bigsunathletics.com to learn how to apply.

New York University - Students who are interested in education as a
major are eligible to apply.  Award amounts will range from $1,000 to
$15,000 annually.

St. Vincent College - Saint Vincent College will provide an opportunity
prospective students to receive an Alumni Grant of $4,000 ($1,000 per
year for four years) which will be awarded upon the student's acceptance
for admission and applied toward tuition, upon matriculation at Saint
Vincent. 

Saint Francis University -The Franciscan Scholarship is awarded to all students accepted at Saint Francis University that graduate from a Catholic High School.  It is worth $1,500 annually.  For more information from St. Francis, call (814)472-3100.

Burger King – Is offering a $1,000 scholarship. Current seniors are eligible. You must have a gpa of 2.5 or higher, work part-time and average of 15 hours a week, 40 weeks a year, be actively involved in community service, demonstrate financial need and plan to enroll in college by the Fall of ’08. You can log on to www.bk.com/scholars to apply.

NEED Leadership Scholarships – NEED will provide fine $7,500 scholarships to qualified African American high school seniors. Student must have all time cumulative GPA of 3.0 and obtain a SAT score of 1,000.

Washington and Lee – is offering 200 applicants a chance to earn free room board and tuition. The applicant will be invited on campus for a candidate review that that will concentrate on academic credentials, and leadership and civic involvement.

Irene S. and Harry Louik College Scholarship Fund – Eligible students will demonstrate special aptitude, ability or achievement in one or more of the performing arts. Be a resident of Allegheny County. Be a graduating senior and demonstrate financial need. Go to www.pittsburghfoundation.org for more information. The deadline for receipt of completed applications is May 16, 2008.

Kentucky Fried Chicken Scholars Program – Provides funding for tuition, fees, books and room and board. Awards can be up to $5,000 per year. Students can complete their application on line at www.kfcscholars.org. Applications will be open in January 2008 for the 2008-09 school year. To be eligible you must: earn a minimum GPA or 2.75, plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a public, in state college and demonstrate need.

The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program – To be eligible you must meet all of the criteria: Hold an official class rank in the top 5 percent of your graduating class, have a grade point average equal to 3.5 or above, have a SAT total score of 1150 or above, or an ACT composite score of 25 or above. The final selection of all qualified applicants will be done by a random selection from each county in Pennsylvania. The number of awards from each county will be determined by the amount of monies allocated by the Federal Government. Awards for this program, new and renewal, are contingent upon federal funding for 2008-09.
