Mrs. Meri Beth Furlong, a member of the Science faculty at
Seton-La Salle High School, will attend the 2011 PA SADD
(Students Against Destructive Decisions) Conference this year in
Seven Springs on October 31, 2011. Mrs. Furlong also
received full scholarships for four students to attend with her.
Those students include: Matt Merikas, Danielle Redinger, Alex
Schilken and Kaleigh Ruggierio. The opening session of the
conference will deal with how humor with a thought-provoking
message can show everyone that we CAN achieve our dreams.
In addition, Mrs. Furlong was also chosen to attend the NSTA
(National Science Teacher’s Association) 2012 Indianapolis
National Conference on Science Education. At the Crossroads
for Science Education, March 29–April 1, 2012. Mrs.
Furlong is 1 of only 6 teachers in the Diocese of Pittsburgh
chosen to attend this conference this year, and is the only high
school teacher chosen. Mrs. Furlong has been a member of
NSTA since 2007. In addition to receiving the funds to
cover all expenses, she will also receive additional money to
purchase educational materials at the convention.
Mrs. Furlong will present all of the valuable information that
she receives from this opportunity at a group workshop for
diocesan educators at a later date.
Congratulations,
Mrs. Furlong!!
