Dear Seton-La Salle
Parents, Students, Alumni, and Supporters,
This
announcement is to share with you the exciting
news about the new Principal and Assistant Principal for
Seton-La Salle. Before introducing the new Principal,
however, let me share the criteria by which their
selection was made. The Principal Search Committee set
down four key criteria that the candidate selected had
to have. These were:
1. Proper K-12 administrator's certification.
2. Proven
experience as a high school administrator.
3. Be
a practicing Catholic in good standing.
4.
Exhibit qualities that would lead the Committee to
believe that the person could sustain Seton-La
Salle's academic excellence AND lead the educational
capacities of the school to even higher levels.
I am
pleased to tell you that the person selected to be the
next Principal at Seton-La Salle meets these four
criteria. That person is Tony Chiappetta. Tony is a
former Principal at Washington High School and Brentwood
High School. He is also the former Superintendent of the
Brentwood School District. His Principal
and Superintendent certifications are intact. Retired
from the public school system for several years, Tony is
excited to get "back in the game" and in his own words
believes that he has "some fire left in his tank." An
active member of Our Lady of Grace parish, Tony and his
wife, Joyce, live in Mt. Lebanon near St. Clair
Hospital. Tony is also a graduate of Central Catholic
HS.
Tony is definitely a "people person." What struck the
Committee in interviewing Tony was that he was focused
on assisting the teachers to achieve their full capacity
as an educator in their rooms. As Tony stated," The
really important actions in the school happen in the
classroom between teacher and student. That is where I
plan to focus my energies." The Principal Selection
Committee was unanimous in its recommendation to the
Members of the diocese that Tony be hired as principal
for the school for a one-year contract, and the Members
approved this recommendation this week.
Dale
Carmassi has agreed to be Assistant Principal. Dale, a
long-time social studies teacher in the school, will
serve a one-year stint to help the school. A long-term
substitute has been hired to fill-in for Dale in the
classroom.
There will
be more information surrounding the hiring of Tony and
Dale to be shared in the coming weeks. For now, do not
hesitate to introduce yourself to Tony when you are at
school, or call him regarding any concern you might have
about your daughter's or son's education. Tony's hiring
is an exciting way to start the school year. May it be
the best ever for your child and you!
Sincerely,
Kevin A. Hayes
