Investigations in Environmental Science
Unit 3: Water Management
"Hydro" the Water Molecule

h20

Hi, I'm Hydro, a water molecule. I'm really a trio of three atoms, an oxygen (red) and two hydrogen atoms (white). Together we form water (H2O). I am about to embark on a journey around Earth, but you get to decide where I go! Since I cannot read or write a map, you will have to keep track of where I go. Try not to get lost, please. To assist you in mapping my travel, you will find red and blue words.

Red words refer to principle residences, places that I stay during my journey. Scientists call this storage or reservoirs. When you come across a red word, write it down on an index card.

Blue words refer to transformations that I went through in getting from one storage place to the next. When you come across a blue word, draw an arrow on an index card and label it with the blue word. Record the definition of all the blue words on your worksheet.

Ready? Let's start my journey in the ocean.
