Create-A-Greeting-Card $10,000 Scholarship Contest

The Gallery Collection is announcing its 4th Annual Create-A-Greeting-Card $10,000 Scholarship Contest. They are offering students a chance to win $10,000 towards their education plus a $1,000 award for Seton LaSalle. Students must submit a unique photo, piece of artwork, or computer graphic for the front of a greeting card. The student with the best design will win a $10,000 scholarship and have his/her design made into an actual card to be sold in their line. Robert Morris University – B. Kenneth Simon Free Enterprise Scholarship

Robert Morris University is now accepting applications for the B. Kenneth Simon Free Enterprise Scholarship. This scholarship is valued at $24, 000 and is awarded over the course of four years of study to an incoming Freshman. Students must demonstrate financial need, be sponsored by a faculty member, possess a 3.0 grade point average, and have a combined minimum SAT scores of 1100 or 24 ACT. Students who meet the criteria will be required to participate in a scholarship orientation session in the early spring and generate an original, thoughtful, research paper that will address a chosen topic related to the US Constitution. St. Vincent’s College

St. Vincent’s College is giving a scholarship to qualified students who are accepted applicants to St. Vincent’s. The amount is $2,000. See Mrs. Caves for the application.


Art Institute of Pittsburgh

The Art Institute of Pittsburgh has several opportunities for high school students in grades 10 through 12 to enter the “ Art Smart “ Competition – an exciting tuition scholarship opportunity for current seniors and a Summer Studio program scholarship for current sophomores and juniors. Schwab Foundation Scholarships - National Financial Capability Challenge

The National Financial Capability Challenge is an awards program designed to increase the financial knowledge and capability of high school aged youth across the United States so they can take control over their financial futures. It challenges high school teachers and other educators to teach the basics of personal finance to their students, and rewards students, educators, schools, and states for their participation and their success. Educators and top-scoring students will receive award certificates, and schools and states with the highest participation rates will earn special distinction.

The Charles Schwab Foundation has announced that it will award select students who excel at the Challenge with $1,000 scholarships and matching grants for the schools. Additionally, the top two scorers at each participating school, plus all students who score in the top 20 percent, will receive award certificates from the U.S. Department of the Treasury. In 2010, nearly 77,000 high-school students competed in the Challenge.

Robert Morris University

Robert Morris University is now accepting applications for the B. Kenneth Simon Free Enterprise Scholarship. This scholarship is valued at $24,000 and is awarded over the course of four years of study to an incoming freshman. Students in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Westmoreland, Washington, Greene, Fayette and Armstrong counties are eligible to compete for this prestigious scholarship. Students must demonstrate financial need, be sponsored by a faculty member at your school, possess a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, and have a combined minimum SAT score of 1100 (math and critical reading parts ony) or 24 ACT. Students who meet the criteria will be required to participate in a scholarship orientation session in the early spring, and generate an original, thoughtful, research paper that will address a chosen topic related to the U.S. Constitution. Central Scholarship and Loan Referral Service

The Central Scholarship and Loan Referral Service (CSLRS) of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh coordinates the efforts of a group of organizations, agencies, and scholarship endowment funds which provide need-based scholarships to local undergraduate and graduate Jewish students. CSLRS is a program of the Jewish Federation and is administered by Jewish Family and Children's Service. WHO QUALIFIES? Any Jewish high school senior, college or graduate student with demonstrated financial need is eligible to apply. All applicants must be bona fide residents of Allegheny, Beaer, Washington, Butler or Westmoreland counties for at least two years. Individuals are known by number, not name, to ensure confidentiality. When a student applies for aid, the CSLRS committee matches the student with the funding source most likely to consider the application. Some funding sources require high academic achievement; all require students to demonstrate financial need. HOW DO I APPLY? For school year 2012-2013 Central Scholarship will again be using an on-line application process. The on-line applications will be available in late November at http://www.centralscholarship.org. Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award

Each year approximately 20 young musicians (ages 8-18) are selected for the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award. Scholarship benefits include: National exposure through an appearance on From the Top’s radio or television broadcasts Up to $10,000 in financial support to be applied to instrument and equipment purchase and/or music program tuition and travel expenses Participation in From the Top’s Arts Leadership Program.
Applicants must be pre-collegiate classical musicians ages 8-18 who demonstrate a high level of musical achievement and financial need. Application postmark deadlines for 2011-2012 are: October 1, 2011 (for seniors in high school must apply by the October 1st deadline), December 1, 2011 and February 1, 2012.

The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program

This program will select the next cohort of 1,000 students in the 2011-12 academic year as Gates Millennium Scholars. This renewable, need-based, merit scholarship provides financial support throughout a Gates Scholar’s undergraduate career. For those who choose to study in one of the seven graduate disciplines: computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science, the scholarship can continue through the pursuit of a doctoral degree. In addition, students are provided support beyond the scholarship dollars to assure they have the mentorship, peer connections and other resources to enhance development of their leadership skills and to assure them every opportunity to attain their degree. IU has a variety of scholarships available to students who will enroll as freshmen in the fall of 2012. Students are automatically considered for Automatic Academic Scholarships when they submit all required application materials for admission by November 1. No separate application is required.
IU Distinction – SAT 1340 or above or ACT 30 or above & minimum GPA of 3.80 - $9,000/year – Total $36,000
IU Prestige – SAT 1220 or above or ACT 27 or above and minimum of GPA of 3.70 - $4,000/year – Total $16,000

As part of Colgate-Palmolive’s commitment to the U.S. Hispanic youth, we are honored to be partnering with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund during 2011’s Hispanic Heritage Month with the sole purpose of encouraging young Hispanics to “MAKE THE U” (Has La U) and get them on the path to higher education.
This year, a total of 11 grants will be awarded:

This scholarship was created to provide scholarships beyond the high school level to students of Serbian background majoring in the field of science.

Comptaro, Elden, Lewis and Sparks Scholarship Funds – Deadline Date: March 18, 2012

These funds were created to provide scholarships to Allegheny County students who plan to attend college or an accredited career or technical school.

Irene S. and Harry Louik College Scholarship Fund – Deadline Date: May 15, 2012

This fund was created to help build future audiences for the performing arts by supporting students who plan to become involved in some way with the performing arts.

Louise Salinger Academy of Fashion Fund – Deadline Date: March 30, 2012

This fund was created through a bequest to provide annual scholarships to high school seniors in Allegheny County who wish to pursue a career in fashion design.

Melville Alexander Eberhardt Memorial Fund – Deadline Date: March 25, 2012

These funds have been created to provide scholarship assistance to worthy and deserving high school seniors who are residents of Pennsylvania and plan to attend a two or four-year accredited college / university.

Oliver L. Johnson & William A. Lester Families Fund – Deadline Date: April 1, 2012

These scholarships are to provide educational opportunities for deserving students in financial need. Preference will be given to black African students born in Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal-Gambia, Zaire, Kenya or Cameroon, or African-American students.

William J. Wolf Memorial Scholarship Fund – Deadline Date: April 1, 2012

This fund was created through a bequest to provide scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students residing in Allegheny County who are of the Lutheran denomination.

Thiel College ~ Full Tuition Presidential Scholarship Competition

On Sunday, January 29, 2012 Thiel College in Greenville, PA will hold its annual Presidential Scholarship competition for high school seniors. Five students will be awarded full tuition scholarships – a total award exceeding $87,000 over 4 years (when enrolled as a full-time residential student at Thiel College). Students that meet the minimum scholarship requirements of a combined SAT critical reading and math score of 1100 or an ACT Composite score of 24 and a 3.7 cumulative GPA are eligible to compete. ASM International
- ~ Pittsburgh Golden Triangle Chapter

The Pittsburgh Golden Triangle chapter of ASM (a metals and materials professional or organization) established the Owen M. Katz High School Scholarship in 2009. The scholarship is awarded to an outstanding high school senior who wishes to pursue a career in the metals or materials field and enrolls in a related college program. The scholarship is $1,500. The Katz family kindly donated money to ASM to help make this scholarship possible. In 2011, a generous donation to the Chapter was also received from the Rich Foundation, to be invested along with original funds donated by the Katz family, to ensure the continuation of this award. University of Michigan ~ College of Engineering

The College of Engineering is pleased to announce the Geisinger Scholarship Program. During his lifetime, Joseph M. Geisinger created a trust fund to provide support to forward the careers of students pursuing degrees in engineering at the University of Michigan. The program will provide $20,000 in annual support to students from selected geographic areas and will be awarded to first-year students admitted to the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor for the 2012-13 academic year. Recipients must be enrolled full-time at the University of Michigan and pursuing an undergraduate degree program in engineering. Scholarship support is awarded for four years of undergraduate study or through graduation, whichever is less; annual renewal is contingent on satisfactory academic progress and maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Pittsburgh Federal Executive Board – Outstanding Asian American Student Award

The Asian American Heritage Committee of the Pittsburgh Federal Executive Board will present awards to Outstanding Asian American Students at their annual luncheon to be held on May 4, 2012. Criteria for selection will be based on scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities, community service, essay and references. Students in the 11th or 12th grades will be eligible. The applications, due by January 6, 2012, must be submitted to the student’s respective Asian Organization. Each ethnic group may select up to three finalists, and the Pittsburgh Federal Executive Board Asian American Committee may choose one highest honor and two honor awardees from each group. Each student is judged based on his/her own achievements. There is no comparison among other students from other ethnic groups. Please note that there are minimum criteria and qualifications that must be met in order to be placed under consideration. Ithaca College

Ithaca College’s Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Program, an interdisciplinary learning community emphasizing citizenship and service on our global community. The program is offered to academically exceptional students from traditionally underrepresented populations who have demonstrated strong character and leadership through service and community involvement. Scholars receive a minimum award of $25,000 and in some cases up to full tuition annually in both merit-based and need-based aid. BigSun Scholarship

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in. The amount of the award is $500 and the deadline is June 22, 2012. The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community. Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology
~ Thaddeus Stevens Legacy Award

In order to be evaluated by the financial aid office for a Thaddeus Stevens Legacy Award a student must meet certain requirements:

ü All enrollment requirements must be met.
ü Students need to complete the FAFSA Pell Code: 014990
ü The deadline for completing the financial aid application is May 1.

The award will be given for one academic year. Returning students must complete the renewal application for federal student aid to be considered for an award for the second year. Empire Education Group

Blackwood Music Scholarship

Since 2000, 46 scholarships, totaling $149,000, have been awarded to high school seniors from out-of-state as well as from the greater western Pennsylvania area. Their instruments have ranged throughout the spectrum—harp, percussion, the strings, brass, woodwinds, piano, and organ—and they have continued their education at some of the most prestigious music schools in the country. Scholarships and grants totaling $30,000 in varying amounts from $2,000 to $6,000 will be available for the year 2012. Pittsburgh Italian Scholarship Fund

Pittsburgh Italian Scholarship Fund will award qualified students $1,500 per semester provided the student maintains a 3.0 GPA. The criteria for the scholarship is: Student must demonstrate excellent academic performance, must demonstrate financial need, one parent must be of Italian heritage and student must successfully complete an interview with the board of directors. Buick Achievers

Buick Achievers recognizes and supports students on their college journey by providing scholarship money. Criteria: High school seniors and current undergraduates, those who plan to enroll full time at a four year college in 3012-2013, those who plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry. Edgar Snyder

Edgar Snyder will be offering a $5,000 scholarship to a graduating senior in Pa through the “words to be Heard” scholarship. High school seniors who will be attending a four year college are encouraged to enter. The deadline is March 30, 2012. Requirements: 1) a completed application 2) a presentation (video/PowerPoint/brochure/website/essay) that discourages underage drinking and driving or testing while driving. Pennsylvania American Water

Pennsylvania American Water is offering a Stream of Learning Scholarship Program. The company will award ten $2,000 scholarships . Deadline to apply is February 29, 2012. Criteria: student must live in Pa, plan to attend a four or two year college, plan to study environmental science, biology, chemistry or environmental engineering, complete an application, write a short essay about their career interests, include a letter of recommendation, include a hs transcript, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Rotary Club of Pittsburgh

Rotary Club of Pittsburgh will provide 6 scholarships at $1,500 each for college bound seniors. Deadline to apply is March 16, 2012. Criteria: must have a 3.2 GPA or higher, fill out application, two letters of recommendation, a 400-600 word essay describing how higher education will help you achieve your goals. Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program

Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program honors young volunteers who have made a positive impact on their communities. This year, they will award more than 2,200 kids with over $440,000 in scholarships and prizes. Top winners will receive $10,000 each for postsecondary education. Learn more at: www.kohlskids.com .
