Esports, short for electronic sports, is Seton LaSalle's competitive gaming club. Launched at the start of the 2020-21 academic year, Seton LaSalle's esports club focuses on two games: League of Legends and Overwatch. League of Legends is in the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) category, and is one of the most popular computer games in the world with a college and professional scene. In the game, players work in teams of five to destroy enemies' bases while protecting their own. The second game our students compete in is Overwatch, which is in the first-person shooter category, and also has college and professional levels of play. In Overwatch, teams of six players battle against each other, taking turns on "attack" and "defense" to accomplish a set objective.

Esports is a varsity sport eligible for scholarships at many colleges and universities across the country. Additionally, professional esports athletes can receive sponsorships, build a large following on video game streaming services like Twitch, and receive payment to produce content related to video games and esports on YouTube.
