Model United Nations

MODERATOR: MR. BENJAMIN SCHRADER

The Model United Nations Club gives students a space to engage in an authentic simulation of the United Nations system by learning about the U.N., the skills of debate, compromise, conflict resolution and negotiation.

Model U.N. members learn about the workings of world diplomacy through the lens of current events. At SLS, the team meets roughly once or twice a week to prepare for regional conferences, which have been held at Carnegie Mellon University, Duquesne University, Gannon University and the University of Pittsburgh in the past. Each delegation is assigned a country to represent at the conference. Members then participate in committees to design resolutions to solve world dilemmas.

Model U.N. provides students with a window into the world and its peacekeeping efforts. The club allows each student a chance to lead and brainstorm solutions with other inspired, ambitious students from their region.
