St. Athanasius, a leading figure in the early Church, taught that “God became like man so that man could become like God.” This is the mystery of faith, the Incarnation, that we celebrate during Christmas. God, in His infinite love and desire for our salvation, humbled Himself to be born as a child and dwell among us. He is Emmanuel, “God with us”.
